According to reports out of England, Atletico Madrid want to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the January transfer window once their transfer ban is lifted.
The Swede is out of contract after Manchester United included him on the club’s list of released players at the end of the season after he picked up a serious knee injury against Anderlecht in the Europa League.
There has been much talk about the striker’s next move, with teams in America and China heavily linked.
And now it appears Atletico have thrown their name into the mix with Ibrahimovic’s agent, Mino Raiola, managing a proposal from the Spanish club.
However, manager Diego Simeone will be unable to register any new players for his squad until January 2018 after having their transfer ban upheld.
The charismatic boss is hoping that if Ibrahimovic did join the Madrid outfit, he would have a very similar impact to that of Christian Vieri back in 1997.
But the Argentine will only be interested in acquiring his services if he has fully recovered from his cruciate knee ligament injury.
Raiola, however, still thinks Ibrahimovic could play his football at United despite being included on the club’s released list.
Ibrahimovic, whose United contract officially expires on June 30, will continue his recovery at the club’s Carrington training ground as he builds up his strength
