Barcelona boss Luis Enrique rocked Barcelona in the immediate aftermath of their Champions League win by suggesting he may not be in charge next season.
The manager’s position had come under serious threat midway through the season, with many pundits predicting he would be forced back in January.
But Enrique mended his relationship with Lionel Messi and Barca went on a remarkable run that ended with the club winning a historic treble.
But when asked after the game is he will be at the Barca helm come August.
“I’m not sure,” while dedicating the win to former sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta and his team: “I dedicate it to them, they thought I would do well here.”
‘Because this is the 60th game of the season and we’ve won 50 of them. It’s the culmination of an historic season, winning the treble,’ Enrique continued,
‘It was a difficult year and I’m grateful to all the people that showed faith in me. They thought I would do well here and I want to dedicate this to them.
‘We never thought we would win the three titles. You try to do your job well and with this group of players it is easier.’
Enrique’s quote about Zubizarreta, who was forced out earlier this season, indicates that the Barca bossed has mot forgotten what Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu has done. That is a big issue for the Barca boss.
This is possible the best Barca side ever, even better than Pep Guardiola’s 2011 side. Could Enrique walk away on principal from this team? At the moment I think it is 50-50 at best that he returns for nest summer.
