Lots of rumours going around that Liverpool are interested in a January swap deal with Newcastle, that would see Andy Carroll return to Tyneside with Newcastle striker Demba Ba heading to Anfield. Just one problem with that story. A players cannot play for three Premier League sides in the same season, and since Carroll has already been registered as a Liverpool and West Ham player, he cannot play for Newcastle.
But just because Carroll cannot be part of any swap deal, does not mean that the Newcastle striker would not be a good signing for Liverpool. Ba is available for around £7 million, which is an absolute steal in today’s market for a proven Premier League goalscorer.
Magpies boss Alan Pardew last week admitted that Ba could leave the club in January saying.
“There is a clause in his contract that makes us vulnerable to losing him and that situation is ongoing, but we cannot worry about that for now.”
I am really surprised that nobody came in for Ba this summer, when he had the same £7 million release clause his contract.
Do you think that Newcastle will sell Demba Ba in January, and would Liverpool be a good destination for him?
