Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has opened the door to one day returning to Anfield by saying that he wouldn’t play for any club other than Liverpool if he was to return to the Premier League.
“You never know what will happen in the future. If I was to return to England, it would be to play for Liverpool – not for any other team” Suarez told ESPN.
“I’ve missed the fans. The atmosphere is incredible, it’s incredible. Everyone who has played for Liverpool knows how important the fans are – they know they will always be in my heart.”
Suarez was brilliant at Liverpool and almost single-handily carried the Reds to their first ever Premier League title before departing for Barca where he has became part of the best triumvirate in world football along with Lionel Messi and Neymar
In Spain, Suarez’s game he grown leaps and bounds and he is Barcelona’s top scorer in La Liga this season with 18 goals.
It is difficult to envisage Suarez returning to Liverpool in the near future given that the club aren’t currently competing in the Champions League, a competition in which he won last season and is favored to win again this season.
There are elements of Cristiano Ronaldo’s pining for a return to Manchester United in Suarez’s comments. Both left the biggest clubs in England for the biggest clubs in Spain. Both enjoyed their relationship with the fans in England but it is really difficult to leave the Camp Nou or Santiago Bernabéu where you are surrounded by some of the best players in the world and competing for trophies every year.
Do you think that Luis Suarez would ever return to England and play for Liverpool again?
