After a summer that saw Juventus plunder the best players from two title rivals, Serie A clubs are fighting back by inserting anti-Juventus clauses in new contracts.
The just closed summer transfer window saw Juventus take arguably the best players from Roma and Napoli in the form of Miralem Pjanic and Gonzalo Higuain respectively.
As a result, top Italian teams have started to insist on adding clauses in any new deals which prevent their stars from making the move to Turin.
The clause would come into effect in the event that there is no interest whatsoever from foreign clubs in securing the services of the player in question.
Inter are keen to avoid losing their captain and striker Mauro Icardi to the Bianconeri and when he signs a new deal at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza next month, his €110 million buyout fee can only be able to be activated by a foreign club.
In addition, three Napoli players’ contracts have stipulations that their release clauses can only be met by clubs outside Serie A, €70m in the case of Kalidou Koulibaly, €40m for Elseid Hysaj and €65m for Piotr Zielinski.
What do you think of this reaction by Inter and Napoli? Is it an over-reaction to this summer’s events or is it a way to fight back at Juve’s financial might?
