Real Madrid have sent 20-year-old midfielder Sergio Canales to Valencia on a season-long loan. Canales could join Valencia on a more long-term basis should the club exercise an option to sign him permanently.
“It’s very satisfying to know that a club like Valencia are interested in me,” said Canales, who is on duty with Spain at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia. “I am filled with pride to be going there; it’s where I wanted to play. The club is fighting for titles every year on domestic and international fronts. It’s an important step for me and allows me to continue my progress. There is a great squad at Valencia and the possibilities are endless.”
This is a good move for both Canales and Real Madrid. With the talent that Madrid has in its midfield, Canales would get very little playing time if he had stayed at Real. At his age he needs to be playing every week so that he can recapture the form that he had with Racing Sentander in the 2009/10 season before Madrid signed him for €4.5M.
It’sa win for Real Madrid as Canales is an obvious talent. He just needs to play in more games. With this deal, hopefully he will gain the playing time that Real Madrid are hoping that he needs.
