A couple of British newspapers were reporting that Manchester United were in discussions with Bayern Munich over a possible deal for Bastian Schweinsteiger. Those conversations are now dead with the news that Schweinsteiger has signed a new 5-year deal with Bayern.
In a statement on the club website Schweinsteiger said:
“I’ve extended my contract and I’m staying with Bayern until 2016. Long live Bayern!”
Schweinsteiger is only 26, but he has already won the domestic league and cup double five times and played in the 2010 Champions League final.
Bayern have done a really good job resigning their stars recent as they had already extended contracts to 2014 or beyond with Franck Ribery, Philipp Lahm, Thomas Mueller and Holger Badstuber.
