The rumours of Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo returning to Manchester United will not die, and the Sun has come up with an interesting scenario where Ronaldo could return to Old Trafford in a £60 million deal.
In addition to the cash, Nani and goalkeeper David de Gea would move in the opposite direction to the Bernabeu, which would bring the total value of the deal to around £105 m.
Not sure why Jose Mourinho and Real Madrid would want Nani, but there has been an increase in stories in Spain about Madrid’s interest in De Gea. The Spanish shotstopper has struggled to adapt to the English game and the feeling is that there are some at the Bernabeu who think that De Gea could be the replacement for Real Madrid goalkeeper and captain Iker Casillas.
Saint Iker has famously fallen out with Jose Mourinho after Mourinho dropped him for Real’s last game of 2012 against Malaga.
The interesting twist in the story is that Ronaldo, who was reported last week as having rejected a new contract offer by Madrid, is represented by agent Jorge Mendes, who happens to also represent De Gea and Nani.
The challenge for United in signing Ronaldo is not only the massive transfer fee, but the huge wages that he wants.
United are ready to make Ronaldo the highest paid player in the Premier League at around £300,000 a week. That will put him on level terms with the new contract that Lionel Messi just signed at Barcelona.
But it is still far short of the £500,000 a week that Ronaldo could earn by joining mega rich Ligue 1 club Paris St Germain.
Do you think that Ronaldo could end up back at United this summer or will he end up in Paris?
