Real Madrid winger Cristiano Ronaldo injured his ankle in his team’s opening Spanish league match and will be out for three weeks. Madrid said Monday on its web site that the Portugal international was hurt in the 0-0 draw with Mallorca on Sunday.
The injury means that Ronaldo will miss Portugal’s upcoming 2012 European Championship qualifiers against Cyprus and Norway. He will also be out for Madrid’s next league match against Osasuna and will be a major doubt for Madrid’s first Champions League game against Ajax on 15 September.
