Add Cristiano Ronaldo to the long list of Real Madrid players who are not happy with the sale of Mesut Ozil’s to Arsenal.
Arbeloa, Sergio Ramos and Isco have all weighed in on the sale, but it is the remarks of Cristiano Ronaldo that will worry Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez the most.
Ronaldo is with the Portugal squad at the moment and this is what he said about the Ozil deal:
“The sale of Ozil is very bad news for me.”
“He was the player who best knew my moves in front of goal… I’m angry about Özil leaving.”
Ronaldo’s frustration at the sale of Ozil is understandable. Ozil has assisted on 27 Ronaldo goals in the last three years, by far the best partnership in his career. Behind Özil is Karim Benzema, who provided him with 17 goals, and then Ryan Giggs, who helped him score on 16 occasions during his six seasons at Manchester United.
Ronaldo has been stalling on a new contract at Real Madrid for months now. The combination of Real Madrid breaking his transfer record to sign Gareth Bale and then selling Ozil to pay for the Bale deal has left him even more unhappy.
Ronaldo has left than two years left on his current deal and Perez has to convince the superstar to stay at the Bernabeu. If he cannot, then the biggest transfer story in 2014 will be where Ronaldo is going.
