Good news for Atletico Madrid as they have turned down an offer from Turkish club Galatasaray for Jose Antonio Reyes.
Galatasaray last week launched an offer for Atletico trio Reyes, Diego Forlan and Tomas Ujfalusi, and on Monday completed the signing of Czech defender Ujfalusi. But winger Reyes will not be following in his former team-mate’s footsteps.
“After a meeting the player (Reyes) had in Seville with his representative Mariano Aguilar and Atletico sporting director Jose Luis Perez Caminero, all parties have agreed to decline the offer from Galatasaray, so the player will form part of the Atletico Madrid first-team squad for next season,” the club announced on their website.
Missing from the Atletico Madrid statement was the status of bid for Diego Forlan. It has been a tough offseason for Atletico fans with goalkeeper Dabid De Gea rumored to be heading to Manchester United and Sergio Aguero expected to move to local rivals Real Madrid. To lose Forlan on top of those moves would be a huge blow for Atletico Madrid’s European ambitions next season.
