Our Real Madrid fan site is reporting that Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Higuain will be sidelined for two months with a hernia in his lower back. Higuain has scored 10 goals from 17 appearances in all competitions this season and his injury leaves Karim Benzema as Madrid’s sole remaining striker, although Cristiano Ronaldo has certainly play in that position.
Madrid team doctor Carlos Diez says a decision was taken Wednesday to proceed with further treatment after monitoring the Argentina international for nearly six weeks. Diez says the Spanish club will seek a second opinion before going through with surgery.

Gonzalo Higuain was examined at Sanitas La Moraleja Hospital on Wednesday morning and diagnosed with a lumbar herniated disc (L5-S1), which causes weakness and radiating numbness. “The player met with a specialist, the coach, the fitness trainer and the entire medical staff. After a period of five to six weeks, during which no improvement was seen, we all agree that he should have surgery. We must now decide what specialist to see for a second opinion, and if we all agree, proceed with the operation. Should this be the case, Higuain will be unable to participate in sports for approximately two months,” commented Dr. Carlos Diez, Chief of Real Madrid’s medical services.
