Real Madrid have reached an agreement to sign Netherlands striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar from Ajax. The 25-year-old, who will sign a contract until 2013, will not be available for Real until January when he will be available to replace compatriot Ruud van Nistelrooy, who has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.
Real will pay up to 27 million euros ($34.4 million), made up of a 20 million euro fixed payment and a 7 million euro variable payment for the Dutch star. Huntelaar has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for several years, but now he is heading to the Spanish capital.
One reason why Real were willing to sign Huntelaar now is that he is Champions League eligible since Ajax did not qualify for the Champions League this year.
Huntelaar has been capped 18 times for Holland and has scored with 10 goals. His goal scoring record with Ajax is just as impressive with 105 goals in 136 appearances.
