Rangers took the first installment of the Glasgow derby on Sunday behind a brace from former Celtic forward Kenny Miller. New addition Pedro Mendes also scored. The Portuguese midfielder joined Rangers this summer from Premiership outfit Portsmouth. 31-year-old Gabonese forward Daniel Cousin rounded out Rangers’ score sheet.
Rangers were busy in the end weeks of the transfer period adding a host of players from across the globe. Among them, Rangers added an American to the roster with the signing of US international Maurice Edu.
In Italy, a late goal from Francesco Valiani lifted promoted side Bologna FC 1909 over Italian power A.C. Milan. Valiani was making his Serie A debut at the San Siro. The 27-year-old midfielder joined Bologna from Rimini Calcio in early 2008. Forward Marco Di Vaio also scored for Bologna.
