For months Raheem Sterling has being getting hammered in media by former Liverpool players about his decision to force a move away from Anfield. But on Tuesday Sterling fired back saying”I’ve joined a club who can win trophies”.
Sterling became the most expensive English player in history when he joined Manchester City for £49 million, but in a dagger to the hearts of Liverpool fans he said he quit Liverpool because he wants to win trophies and he believes the quality in City’s squad can help him achieve that goal.
“The world-class players that are here and a squad that are capable of winning things year in, year out,” he said when asked what excited him about City.
“The more quality players that are around you, the more quality it brings out in you so I can’t wait to get started and play alongside them.
“They’re top class. There’s everything you need here and plenty more. There’s everything you need to take you to the next level so there’re no excuses!”
The 20-year-old Sterling said that he sounded Joe Hart out about City on his last England trip and admitted he is relieved his controversial move is finally done.
“I spoke to him briefly on the last England trip,” he said speaking to Manchester City’s website. “He just told me what a really good football club this was and how nice the fans are – nothing too serious, but a bit of a heads up.
“It’s a good feeling and a really happy time for me and my family. I’m just glad it’s all over and done with and I can’t wait to get on the training field.”
