The Spanish Super Cup is fast approaching and Gerard Piqué says:
“I think that winning the Super Cup would give us confidence. It’s a special game against a special opponent and I’m sure it would give us a lot of confidence for the start of the new season, but I don’t see it as something crucial. We could win but we could also lose.”
The defender didn’t want to set out any goals but admitted that this pre-season is giving him a good vibe.
“More than a personal objective I think it’s important to set out group objectives. I think that following a good pre-season I’ll start the season well. I’m getting a very good vibe. We’ve had four training sessions and I feel good, without any discomfort.”
One target that Piqué has is to close the gap in the league between themselves and Real Madrid:
“Real Madrid is the reigning champion and what we’ll try to do is win the league. Right now it’s 50/50. Both are talented teams with strength and depth and right now they’ve very evenly matched.”
The defender spoke about the new era starting with Tito Vilanova.
“Tito has his own way of doing things and there are some things that are different, but along the same lines as before. We’re very comfortable. It’s very intense, training is going well and the general feeling is good.”
