We take a look at PSG’s season after they were confirmed Ligue 1 2014/15 champions at the weekend for the third consecutive time.
PSG agreed to significantly limit their spending last summer after a Financial Fair Play settlement with Uefa and, while that arguably impacted their chances to win the Champions League, it did not damage their domestic ambitions.
After lifting the league title and the League Cup, which they won against Bastia last month, PSG take on second division AJ Auxerre in the French Cup final on 30 May for the chance at a historic domestic treble.
But even the treble does not good enough for Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al Khelaifi, who clearly wants the bigger prize of Champions League success.
“It’s a great night for us,” Al Khelaifi said on his club’s official website. “It’s a third trophy this season after the Trophee des Champions and the Coupe de la Ligue, and now we will try and win the Coupe de France.
“Everyone worked hard to win this Ligue 1 championship. I would also like to thank our supporters who came in such numbers this evening. Our project is continuing to grow.
“I have confidence in the future and I hope we will win the Champions League. That’s what we are working towards.”
PSG fans in North America will get a chance to see the new Ligue 1 champions live this summer as they take part in the 2015 International Champions Cup.
