FC Barcelona is a club that is broke and in the middle of a nasty civil war. But that has not stopped coach Quique Setien dreaming of signing ‘both’ Inter forward forward Lautaro Martinez and PSG talisman Neymar this summer.
The transfer saga of Lautaro will go on until his limited release clause ends in mid-July.Barcelona are constantly mentioned as his next destination but Inter want the fill €111m in cash for the transfer, a challenge for cash-poor Barcelona who had to borrow funds in order to buy Martin Braithwaite from Leganés in February.
But with the financial implications of such an operation, could mean that they have to choose between former hero Neymar and the new Argetine starlet, but the former Real Betis coach couldn’t make up his mind.
“[I pick] both, because they are excellent players,” he told El Larguer. “I don’t think about the future, but about the present.”
“Neymar is a great footballer, and everyone would like to train the best. But we know that he costs so much and that it’s not easy to sign him.
With the current campaign at a standstill due to the global coronavirus pandemic, the Spanish FA suggested to hand the current top four in La Liga a place in the Champions League next season.
Setien also feels giving the title to Barcelona would ‘be the most logical thing’, but insists he wants to win it on the pitch.
“If we can’t resume play, the most logical thing is to hand Barcelona the title,” Setien told El Larguer. “But I wouldn’t like to be a champion like that, and I wouldn’t celebrate the League title.
“And there are eight teams that can win the Champions League, now Liverpool are out, and anyone can do it. Leo [Messi] wants to win it and he’s also playing well.”
