The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and the LFP have announced that the 2012-13 La Liga season will begin on the weekend of August 18 and 19.
This is in line with the schedule for the recently concluded 2011-12 campaign, which was slated to kick-off on August 20 but was postponed by a week due to player strike action.
The two-legged Spanish Supercopa, to be contested between Real Madrid and either Athletic Bilbao or Barcelona, will be played on August 23 and 30, with the league campaign already underway.
The early start to the season is intended to help the Spanish national team, with coach Vicente del Bosque wanting his players to be fully fit going into several 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
The final round of fixtures will be played on May 19, 2013, with the Copa del Rey final tentatively planned for May 8.
