Monaco’s sporting director Vadim Vasilyev says that Radamel Falcao “won’t leave in January” despite persistent speculation linking him with a big money move to Chelsea or Real Madrid.
Falcao only joined Monaco in the summer from Atletico Madrid and Vasilyev told RMC:
“He’s very happy here. He feels really good in Monaco. Actually, we dined with him, his wife and the president a few days ago and he loves the club, the city. So there’s no problem and he won’t leave in January. That’s certain.”
The Colombian striker missed Monaco’s Ligue 1 win over Reims on Saturday, but Vasilyev said that was a precautionary move
“He’s got pain in his thigh, that’s the truth. Nothing serious, but I think it was enough for him not to play on Saturday evening. It was better to be cautious, and that’s what the coach did. Radamel is very important in our squad. We need him and we want him in good shape. There’s no problem.”
The rumors of a Falco to Chelsea move never made sense to me as Chelsea were offered the striker several times by Atletico Madrid and did not make the move to sign him.
Monaco occupy one of Lique 1’s Champions League spots, and one of the big reasons for their good start to the season is Falcao who has scored 9 goals this season, putting him third in Lique 1 behind PSG’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani.
Falco is one of the top strikers in the world and if he stays healthily he will lead Monaco into the Champions League next season. If they sold him, who could replace him?
