It’s not exactly the best way to prepare for a major tournament. But Lionel Messi will fly back to Spain from Argentina in order to attend his trial on Thursday.
The best player in the world and is father have been accused of defrauding the Spanish taxman of €4.1 million between 2007 and 2009.
Messi is expected to give a testimony on Thursday in the Barcelona court. Ahead of that date, details have been coming out in the media about some of Messi’s previous testimony in the case.
According to Catalan newspaper El Periodico, Messi told a judge in 2013:
“I trust my father, who takes care of my business.
“Whatever he tells me to do, I do.”
Asked if he reads his contracts before signing them, the Argentina forward said that he does not.
“I sign everything, but I never read the contracts.
“I don’t know what I’m signing,” he said.
Once the trial is over, the Argentinian will join up with his teammates for this summer’s Copa America.
