It looks like Louis van Gaal has learnt from last summer’s summer recruitment, where United left it very late in the transfer window to make their moves. This summer it looks like van Gaal is determined to wrap up the majority of United’s transfer business early in the summer thus year.
Reports out of Germany last week revealed that Germany centre Mats Hummels has indicated he’s finally ready to become a United player, and it appears that he will be joined at Old Trafford by his Borussia Dortmund teammate Ilkay Gundogan in a £50 million double deal.
According to reports, Dortmund are resigned to the fact that Gundogan following Hummels out of the door after the midfield anchorman flatly refused to renew a £100,000-a-week contract that runs out next year and evidently made little secret of his wish to join United.
Van Gaal hass reported to be given a £150 million net transfer budget, so spending £50 million on Gundogan and Hummels will leave United plenty of money to make a run at a world class talent like Gareth Bale and Paul Pogba.
LVG’s transfer budget is net, and with Javier Hernandez, Nani, Rafael, Tom Cleverly, Robin van Persie and Jonny Evans all expected to leave Old Trafford this summer, van Gaal will have all those funds available to him also. So United could potentially be able to afford both Pogba AND Bale this summer.
