Manchester United have tabled a ‘huge’ €82 million bid for Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller, according to Sport1.
Louis van Gaal is determined to sign a new striker this summer and the report claims Muller is high on the United boss’s wish list especially as the pair have worked together before during the 63-year-old’s stint in charge of the Bundesliga giants.
Last season, Muller was once again a vital member of the team that lifted their third league title on the bounce. He scored 13 goals in 32 appearances, more than any United striker managed last campaign.
In what could a twist in this story, the Guardian is reporting that Bayern boss Pep Guardiola is reportedly interested in United’s record-signing Angel Di Maria and some sort of swap between the two clubs is possible, however, the Sport1 report suggests that United would prefer a straight cash deal.
Muller isn’t the first Bayern player to be linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer, Bastian Schweinsteiger has been the subject to some keen interest from the Premier League side as they continue their search for a dominant midfield player.
United are desperate to make a marquee signing this summer, but I don’t think that Thomas Muller will be it. Muller is only 25-years-old, and has been at Bayern since he was a kid. He has won everything at Bayern, and unless he wants a new challenge I just cannot see him leaving his boyhood side.
But if he did, what a signing it would be United!!
