According to AS Sport in Spain, Manchester United have offered Real Madrid €30 million and David De Gea for Sergio Ramos, a deal that would value the Real Madrid center back at around €70-75 million. United would also reportedly pay Ramos around £250,000 a week, double what he earns now.
Interestingly, the Spanish papers say that United’s move for Ramos is not a new development. Representatives of the United made contact with René Ramos, the brother and agent of Sergio, to find out what the defender´s situation was. A face-to-face meeting took place in April in a London hotel. There, Manchester United informed René Ramos of their interest in signing the player that played a key role in Madrid lifting La Décim.
Back it April it seemed highly unlikely Ramos would leave the club. However, as I wrote the other day, the Spanish defender is angry with Madrid for not redoing his contract and that nobody from the club came out to defend him against accusations that he was offered as part of the Barcelona presidential elections.
While Ramos is under contract until 2017, he has repeatedly been receiving English classes to prepare for a possible exit.
I still cannot see Real letting Ramos go, as he is a fan favorite. Interesting, MARCA, the mouth piece of the club, has several pro-Ramos and Iker Casillas articles today that position Real president Florentino Perez as the bad guy in all of this.
At the end of the day, I expect Ramos to sign a new contract at Real Madrid, but if United could lure Ramos from them, what a signing he would be.
