After missing out on Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara, Manchester United have focused their attention on his teammate Cesc Fabregas, by making a £26m bid for the Barcelona midfielder.
According to reports, United boss David Moyes sees Fabregas as the creative player that United’s midfield is lacking.
United believe that they can sell a move to the north-west to Fabregas by offering him the chance to reunite with former team-mate Robin van Persie and by telling him that he will be at the heart of United’s new look midfield.
Really surprised that United have made this bid. After selling Thiago to Bayern Munich, and with Xavi and Iniesta looking tired in the Confederations Cup, Fabregas would expect to see more playing time for Barcelona next season. So it would be difficult for Barcelona to sell two of their top midfielders this summer.
Plus Arsenal have first refusal with Barcelona on Fabregas, an agreement that was struck when they sold him. However, that will only work in the London club’s favour if Fabregas decides he wants to return to the Emirates rather than switch to Old Trafford.
That being said, United would not have made an official bid if they had not had some sort of indication from Barcelona and/or Fabregas that he is open to a move to Old Trafford.
The size of the bid is pretty low, and I would expect that United would have to go into the low £30m’s in order to sign Fabregas.
Do you think that Man United will succeed in signing Cesc Fabregas away from Barcelona?
