Atletico Madrid star Sergio Aguero has arrived in Manchester to complete his reported £40m move to Manchester City.
Aguero said on Twitter:
“Just arrived in Manchester to tie up the details of the signing for City. Everything is going well. I’ll tell you more in a little while.”
Aguero will become the second most expensive player in Premier League history following Chelsea’s £50m deal for Fernando Torres in January.
The signing of Aguero is a big statement of intent by Man City. Not only have they have signed a potential replacement for want-away captain Carlos Tevez, but they have signed one of the most exciting attacking talents in world football.
Aguero made his debut aged just 15 for Independiente, breaking Diego Maradona’s record to become the youngest footballer to play in Argentina’s top flight. While playing for Atletico he has scored 68 league goals in the past four seasons.
It will be interesting to see what this signing does for Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs. The three northern clubs (Man Utd, Man City and Liverpool) have all made big, bold moves this summer while the three London clubs have done very little.
Unless one or more of the London clubs gets active in the transfer market, they could all be fighting for that last Champions League spot.
