Barcelona are threatening to end the La Liga title race by halloween, as two goals from Lionel Messi helped Barcelona beat Getafe 4-1, while Real Madrid lost for the second time in four games.
Real Madrid are now eight points behind Barcelona after a stunning early goal from Piotr Trochowski was the difference as Sevilla won 1-0 at home over Madrid. Real Madrid pressed forward looking for an equalizer but Andrés Palop parried a Luka Modrić shot on to a post and Sergio Ramos headed against the bar as Madrid sought a leveller that never arrived.
Barcelona have not missed a beat since Tito Vilanova replaced Pep Guardiola this summer as the Blaugrana have won their first four La Liga games.
Left-back Adriano scored for the second consecutive game before Messi doubled Barca’s lead from the penalty spot. Messi knocked in the third from Martín Montoya’s centre then Pablo Sarabia’s deflected shot brought Getafe the third goal of a hectic six-minute spell. That served only as consolation goal though as David Villa struck an added-time fourth.
Elsewhere, Malaga warned up for their Champions League debut this week by beating Levante 3-1 where new signing Javier Saviola scoring his first goal for the club, and Valencia overcame Celta Vigo 2-1.
