Barcelona head coach Luis Enrique has confirmed Luis Suarez will play in the pre-season clash on Monday.
The head coach says he has been impressed by the Uruguayan in training this weekend and will give him some playing time in the Gamper Trophy
The Uruguayan returned to training this weekend after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) reduced his ban from football to allow him to take part in training and club friendly matches.
And Luis Enrique has been sufficiently impressed by Suarez to allow him some playing time in Monday’s Gamper Trophy encounter.
“Luis Suarez will play some minutes in the Gamper tomorrow,” he told reporters on Sunday.
“During two training sessions he’s already shown he is really talented. He looks like the player we were looking for.”
Suárez spoke to the Barcelona press following his first training session with the Catalan side, and said he is “happy to be with his teammates and feel like a footballer again”, and admitted he is “paying for an error” that he committed.
“I’m very happy to feel like a footballer again and to be with my teammates. I really wanted to get going. It was an uncomfortable situation. I’m paying for an error that I committed”, said the Uruguayan after his first training session.
“Now I have to wait to get back playing, and to have contact with the fans and experience what it’s like to play in the Camp Nou. I’m very thankful to the club for all they’ve done for me in the last few days and weeks. They’ve treated me well and I’m grateful because I’m achieving a dream to play with Barça”, he added.
With Neymar cleared by the Barca medical staff to play also, we could see the the threesome of Lionel Messi, Suarez and Neymar on the pitch for the first time together on Monday night. It is an attacking trio that is unparalleled in European football at the moment.
