Liverpool have finally agreed a fee of £22.8m with Ajax for Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez.
A statement on the Liverpool web site reads:
“Liverpool Football Club announced this afternoon that they had agreed a fee of up to 26.5million Euros with Ajax for the transfer of Luis Suarez, subject to the completion of a medical. The Club have now been given permission by Ajax to discuss personal terms with the player and his representatives.”
It was a long drawn out transfer as Liverpool have had to nearly double their original £12.7m offer in order to get Suarez.
Suarez had been a prolific scorer in Holland scoring 110 goals in 154 appearances for the Dutch side. The question with his signing is whether he plays alongside Fernando Torres or replaces Torres who has been the target of a £40m bid from Chelsea.
According to TalkSports, Suarez will turn down Liverpool’s offer is Torres is sold.
If Liverpool can agree personal terms with Suarez and play him up-front with Torres then Liverpool have a strike force as good as anyone in the Premier League.
Here are some of the goals that Suarez has scored for Ajax.
