Liverpool Captain Steven Gerrard To New Signings: “Who Are Ya”

Stevie-GerrardLike many Liverpool fans, captain Steven Gerrard knows ‘very little’ about the clubs two new Spanish signings Luis Alberto and Iago Aspa.

‘I know very little about them, but I have a lot belief and confidence in Brendan and the scouting department that they are going to make the right decisions and I have seen bits and bobs of the new signings we have made,’ Gerrard told LFC TV.

‘I am really looking forward to getting back to work next week and seeing what the new players have got to offer and see if they can help strengthen our squad to put in a better fight for a top-four finish.

‘It’s always important to get faces in as soon as possible; they can get a full pre-season under their belt, get to know the lads and how the manager wants to play.

‘There are (also) some exciting names in there so everyone is excited.’

Liverpool have been one of the busiest clubs in the Premier League this month signing defender Kolo Toure and goalkeeper Simon Mignolet in addition to the two Spaniards managing director Ian Ayre is happy with the clubs busy so far this summer:

“We’ve worked tirelessly, a lot of people behind the scenes worked ahead of the transfer window to identify those players that interest us. Then the hard work starts, negotiating and bringing these deals together.”

The big question for Liverpool and Brendan Rodgers is what to do with Luis Suarez and Pepe Reina. Suarez has been quoted as saying that he would live to move to Real Madrid this summer, and there are some reports out of Spain that he has already signed a pre-contract with the Spanish side.

And after spending around £11m to sign Mignolet from Sunderland, Liverpool are not spending that kind of money for him to sit on the bench, a role that Reina would not be willing to accept.

By the time the transfer window closes I expect both Reina and Suarez to be playing elsewhere, freeing up the funds for Brendan Rodgers to get that center half and striker that he needs.
