Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp recently ‘spent an hour on the phone discussing a possible move to Paris Saint-Germain with the club’s sporting director Leonardo’ before insisting he is happy at Anfield.
According to French outlet Le10Sport, Leonardo reached out to Klopp to sound him out about taking over the reins with current boss Thomas Tuchel under increasing pressure.
Tuchel guided PSG to the Ligue 1 title last term but club chiefs are desperate to win the Champions League, and the German is expected to be axed if he cannot deliver it this season.
Leonardo explained the club’s vision to Klopp during their discussion over the festive period in an attempt to convince the Liverpool boss to jump ship should a vacancy become available at PSG.
However, Klopp, who signed a new deal earlier this month to keep him at Liverpool until 2024, gave no indication he would be interested in joining PSG.
Klopp has received huge plaudits for the job he has done at Liverpool after claiming Champions League glory last season and taking them to the top of the Premier League this term and opening up a massive points gap over Manchester City and Leicester.
The 52-year-old’s work has not gone unnoticed with Paul Merson recently describing him as a ‘better boss than Pep Guardiola’ and Barcelona fans expressing a desire for him to replace Ernesto Valverde at the helm.
PSG are not yet resigned to missing out on Klopp but Leonardo has also held conversations with former Juventus boss Max Allegri, who has been out of work since leaving the Italian giants at the end of last campaign.
