Jurgen Klopp is set to give many of Liverpool’s squad players a chance to impress against Tottenham in midweek. The Reds saw off West Brom at Anfield on Saturday and now face Spurs in the League Cup on Tuesday night.
It is Liverpool’s third game in just eight days and Klopp have indicated that he will will rest his first-team regulars. Danny Ings, Marko Grujic , Ovie Ejaria, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kevin Stewart were all left out of the Liverpool Under-23s squad for Sunday’s mini-derby with Everton as Klopp considers calling upon their services.
Ings, who has only made one senior appearance this season, has had to be patient following his recovery from the cruciate ligament injury which ruled him out for most of last season. But Ings has been in outstanding form for Michael Beale’s Under-23 squad and is expected to start against Spurs.
Lucas Leiva, Daniel Sturridge, Ragnar Klavan, Divock Origi and Alberto Moreno will also be among those hoping to get a chance to shine on Tuesday night.
However, the fact that Mamadou Sakho started against Everton’s under-23s is further proof that the France international is no closer to a first-team return.
