Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has promised fans that the Reds will come back stronger from their Europa League final heartbreak.
Liverpool suffered a double blow when a second half collapse against Sevilla not only denied Klopp the opportunity to become the quickest Anfield boss to land silverware in the club’s history, but ensured that the Reds would be out of European competition next season.
But Klopp vowed afterwards:
“We are responsible for not being in the Champions League next season but now we have to use the time. We have to use it. We have to use it.
“It’s not about the size of the squad or how many players we have, it’s about using the time for training to get better, using this experience tonight and I promise everyone, we will use it. We will use it. We will come back stronger 100 per cent.
“The guys tried everything. We didn’t get it tonight but we will come back.”
Klopp added:
“Sevilla’s first goal was key, it influenced our game. We lost faith in our game plan and lost our way. We stopped keeping things simple and made it complicated. Suddenly we lost our shape.
At times we showed what we can do, we were great in spells. But only short spells. We need to sustain it.”
When it went to 1-1, Sevilla took control of the game and we defended poorly. We had time – we had 44 minutes to fight back – but we couldn’t. We are disappointed, frustrated, but we will use this.
This defeats means we’re not in Europe next season. That means we have time to train and we will use it, we will come back stronger. We must use this experience.”
