Kaka Bullish On AC Milan This Season

AC Milan legend Kaka believes that his former side have the firepower to compete for the Serie A this season and return to their former greatness.

The former Milan player, who currently features in the MLS for Orlandy City, made over 300 appearances for AC, scoring 104 goals, has spoken out regarding the Italian giant’s summer spending spree.

‘I think Milan is doing really well in the transfer market,’ the Brazilian said, as reported by Four Four Two.

‘They have bought very good players with good spirit.

Milan have spent over £160million on new recruits, with the most recent being Italian defender Leonardo Bonucci for £35million from rivals, and current Scudetto holders, Juventus.

Other new members of the Milan outfit include, Hakan Calhanoglu (£17million), Mateo Musacchio (£15.5million), who will wear the famous No 22 shirt previously owned by Kaka himself, with up to another seven players now on the club’s wage bill.

Despite continuous lack-lustre performances in recent years, finishing no higher than sixth since 2013 and even finishing 10th in 2015, Kaka, who left the Italian side to join the Galacticos of Real Madrid for £49million in 2009 alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, now believes that his former side are strong enough to return to their former glory.

‘I hope and I wish that Milan will fight for the Scudetto this season and return to the Champions League,’ Kaka said.

‘This is what I want for Milan. I love the club, I support the club. I want to see them winning and being in the place they deserve to be – at the top.’

Milan kick-off their Serie A title hopes on Sunday away to Crotone and with such a ludicrous spending spree this summer, you can’t blame Kaka for his expectations.

But former French international and AC Milan player Marcel Desailly says that his former side require more ‘leaders’ to return to the summit of European football.

‘They’ve been buying quite lot of players, but it will not be enough for the next two seasons,’ he said. ‘To create a foundation for the club you need leaders.

‘You need a lot of elements to be able to get the Milan — the big Milan — of the 90s.’

Although, Milan have looked to recruit leaders, but more so in the backroom staff than on the pitch, with the recent return of former goalkeeper Christian Abbiati, who played for the Italian side over 15 seasons.

But despite his criticisms, Desailly, who won a Champions League and two Serie A titles amongst other honours during his time in Italy, conceded that he is ‘happy again’ following Milan’s summer business.

‘I’m happy again,’ he said. ‘You should not be scared about money. We were scared because my former president [Silvio] Berlusconi gave up the club.

‘So we were hoping for the club to be active and now we have seen that.’
