Juve Shock As Khedira Ruled Out For Two Months

khedira-juveJuventus have confirmed that their top summer signing, Sami Khedira, will be out for ‘approximately two months’ with a thigh injury. Khedira is expected to a miss six or seven league matches, including big games against Roma and Napoli, plus a pair of Champions League group stage games.

The German international joined the Serie A champions this summer on a free transfer from Real Madrid, but pulled up with an injury in the friendly with Marseille on Saturday.

“Sami Khedira will be sidelined for approximately two months after medical examinations revealed a second-grade myotendinous tear of the rectus femoris muscle in his right thigh,” the Juventus confirmed in a statement.

Khedira has struggled with injuries for much of the past few seasons. He battled through back problems and concussion symptoms last season, missed most of the 2013/14 season with an ACL tear, and even failed to appear in the World Cup final in Brazil after suffering an injury in the warmups.

The injury is a massive blow to Juventus, who are looking to overhaul their midfield after longtime club fixtures Andrea Pirlo and Arturo Vidal both left the club and Kwadwo Asamoah is still recovering from knee surgery.

According to Tuttosport, Juventus could look to add another midfielder before the transfer window closes, with Argentinian midfielder Javier Mascherano their preferred target. But with Barca unable to bring in an immediate replacement for Mascherano that might be a difficult transfer to pull off.
