Dutch legend Johan Cruyff says Real Madrid can only dream of ever being as good as Barcelona
The three times Ballon d’Or winner coached at the Nou Camp for eight years and guided Barca to the European Cup in 1992, which they won at Wembley.
Current manager Pep Guardiola will return to the stadium for this season’s Champions League final after knocking out Real 3-1 on aggregate in the semi-finals.
And, after watching Barca out-class Jose Mourinho’s side over two legs, Cruyff claims his former club will always have the edge over the their bitter adversaries.
“Real Madrid can only hope to one day reach the levels of the Catalan club,” the 64-year-old wrote in his column printed in El Periodico de Catalunya. “They [Barca] are better than Jose Mourinho’s side – the club always reinforces its hegemony in world football with their style. Mourinho can say what he wants, but the world has seen that over 180 minutes Real Madrid couldn’t match Barca.”
