Interesting small piece in Marca on Wednesday that Real Madrid are close to signing Espanyol goalkeeper Kiko Casilla for around €3 million.
One line caught my eye:
“Espanyol’s Kiko Casilla is the chosen man to replace Iker Casillas, almost certain to join FC Porto.”
Now Marca is often seen as the unofficial voice of Real Madrid and I am sure that this is not a throw way line. Someone paid a lot of attention to how this was worded, with the inference being that Casilla will be Real Madrid’s No. 1 next season.
That I am not sure about. With Iker Casillas’s departure from the Bernabéu imminent, and his back-up last season, Keylor Navas struggling to regain fitness from an Achilles injury, the Spanish side find themselves short of a goalkeeper ahead of their preseason tour of Australia.
But the wording of the article might give Man United fans hope that their Player of the Year David de Gea is staying at Old Trafford for at least one more season.
