Republic of Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni believes England manager Fabio Capello wants the job at Inter Milan.
Capello is on Inter’s list of candidates to replace Jose Mourinho and club president Massimo Moratti has indicated he will move for the 63-year-old once England’s World Cup campaign is over.
Trapattoni believes the chance to coach the Champions League winners would appeal to Capello, following Jose Mourinho’s move from Inter to Real Madrid.
Trapattoni told Italian TV station RAI’s ‘GR Parlamento’ show:
“Even before Mourinho left, I imagined the name of his possible replacement. Inter’s next coach? At this time, Capello is the number one candidate. There’s no doubt about his wish but it depends on his contract.”
Capello has a deal with England that runs until after Euro 2012. Trapattoni continued:
“I think it will depend on his contract but (Inter president Massimo) Moratti even in the past had the possibility to sign him. Knowing Fabio, he is very focused but his situation is very difficult and he is followed by everyone. Ahead of a World Cup, a false step could create problems for him.”
Capello has managed Juventus, AC Milan and Roma in Serie A.
What would you think of Capello replacing Mourinho? Is he the best choice?
