Inter Say Maicon Staying In Milan

MaiconInter MIlan insist there is no truth in reports linking Maicon with a move away from the club.

Speculation has surfaced over the past few days about a possible summer departure after the Brazilian returned to his homeland, with the Coppa Italia final still to come this weekend.

The speculation has been so intense that Inter were forced to put out a statement to clarify that Maicon was given permission to make the trip to deal with private matters.

“Internazionale wishes to reiterate that Maicon, who is suspended for next Sunday’s Coppa Italia final, has been granted leave for personal reasons, as explained by Leonardo during last Saturday’s press conference before Inter v Catania,” read the official statement. “The recent media speculation regarding the player is therefore both incomprehensible and entirely groundless.”

Maicon’s agent Roberto Calenda has said that he will stay at Inter telling Sky Sport 24:

“The player is not for sale. He has a contract with Inter, and stays there for now. We do not know anything and I did not get any offers. In football anything can happen but at this juncture there is nothing [verified] about this deal. This I can confirm categorically. Maicon is the best player in the world in his role, and it is clear that big clubs are interested in him. But he already plays in one of the strongest clubs in Europe, the current World [Club Cup] champions, and is in the right situation.”
