Inter Milan will meet UC Sampdoria in the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia after defeating AS Roma 2-1 in their quarter-final at San Siro on Wednesday.
Adriano opened the scoring for Inter on ten minutes as the Serie A leaders looked to bounce back from their defeat at Atalanta BC on Sunday. These two sides had met in each of the past four Coppa Italia finals with Roma winning the previous two, and the holders fought their way back, Rodrigo Taddei drawing them level on 61 minutes with a powerful drive. Parity, however, was shortlived as Zlatan Ibrahimović struck the winner just a minute later.
Inter will meet Sampdoria in a two-legged semi-final after the Genoese side defeated Udinese Calcio 4-1 on penalties following a 1-1 draw. Giampaolo Pazzini, freshly arrived from ACF Fiorentina, opened the scoring for Sampdoria on 55 minutes and though Antonio Di Natale drew Udinese level from the spot eight minutes after that, he missed another spot kick in the final minute, to allow the visiting side to have the last laugh. S.S. Lazio host Torino FC on Thursday with the winners meeting either SSC Napoli or Juventus, who play their quarter-final on 4 February.
