Earlier this week the Houston Dynamo filled its designated player spot when it acquired striker Luis Ángel Landín on loan from the Mexican club Cruz Azul. The loan is scheduled to run through the end of the 2010 season, at which time the Dynamo can purchase Landin.
What makes this deal noteworthy, is that Landín is only 24 and is by far the youngest of the designated players in M.L.S. He has already played five times for Mexico’s national team and is a future Mexicain star in the making. came up through Pachuca’s youth system.
Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear short of calling Landin the most important or the biggest signing in Dynamo history. While excited about getting Landin in Houston, and having him available for the Dynamo’s quest to win another championship, Kinnear said the team has signed many good players since moving to Houston in 2006.
“I don’t know (if he is the biggest signing ever),” said Kinnear. “I mean we signed Stuart Holden as a player that really no one knew about. And I think that was a great signing because look at all the great things he has done for us. But I think from a media standpoint and the interest from the community, it probably is, but you know we’ve made some great ones along the way. You hope that he will be a good player for us.”
