Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain has been linked with a move away from the La Liga champions all season, but Jose Mourinho has moved to squash those rumors, saying that Higuain is not for sale.
The £35million striker lost his place in Madrid’s starting XI this season to Karim Benzema and he has been strongly linked with a move to Chelsea or Paris Saint-Germain
But Mourinho has denied the speculation, telling ABC:
“Higuain is staying here. He will stay at Madrid because I don’t want him to go. He has an excellent contract here that runs for many more years.
He is not one of those players who arrived a year ago and earns little, he earns at the same level as others.
“Even if clubs offer 40, 50 or 60 million Euros, we will not sell him. My two strikers for next season will be [Karim] Benzema and Higuain.”
Despite not being a regular starter, Higuain still had a prolific season, scoring 22 goals in 34 La Liga appearances this season.
It will be interested to see what Madrid will do, if they do receive a bid of 40+ million Euros for Higuain. Will they have the resolve to say no, or will the money people inside the club want to cash in on the player?
