In what might be one of the worst putdowns every for the 20 time Premier League Champions, West Ham boss Sam Allardyce called Manchester United a “long ball” side after seeing his side throw away three points against United on Sunday.
Allardyce, who is notorious for a long-ball style of football, admitted that the Hammers struggled to cope with the aerial balls, with Manchester United playing 30 more long passes than their opponents.
He told Sky Sports: “We couldn’t cope with ‘long-ball United’, it was ‘thump it forward and see what they could get’. In the end it paid off.
“When you’ve got Fellaini up there it was difficult for us, it’s not how you normally see Man United play, but it got them a point in the end.
“The likes of Radamel Falcao, Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Angel Di Maria hardly got a look in.”
Harsh words from the Hammers boss, but it amazes that in a starting lnie-up that included Rooney, Di Maria, Van Persie, Falcao abd Januzaj that United are so boring to watch. Its almost like they are playing not to lose, and praying that they can hold onto a top four finish. For fans that were brought up watching Fergie’s United put teams to the sword on a regular basis, watching this kind of football is really painful.
What do you think if Big Sam’s comments? Have United turned into a boring, long-ball side?
