Real Madrid’s attempt to bring in anther forward this month hit another snag as Hamburg have rejected their latest bid to re-sign Dutch striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.
After seeing an initial loan bid turned down, Madrid came back with a new offer of €2 million plus a showpiece friendly between the clubs. This was not good enough for Hamburg sporting director Bernd Hoffmann.
“We have rejected a new and concrete offer from Real – we have explained our decision to the player and his agent. We want to do everything to qualify for Europe and it is thus unthinkable to let Van Nistelrooy leave now.”
Van Nistelrooy, who is out of contract at the end of the season, joined Hamburg from Real last season and has scored six goals so far this season.
Madrid are desperate to add another striker before this transfer window closes and have already been turned down by Manchester City for Emmanuel Adebayor and Bayern Munich for Miroslav Klose.
