Antoine Griezmann has reportedly started to regret his decision to turn down Barcelona in the summer and is hoping he can secure a move to the Nou Camp come the end of the season.
The French forward was strongly linked with the Catalan club but would go on to announce he was committing himself to Atletico Madrid in a documentary entitled ‘The Decision’, signing a new deal until 2023.
However, he now believes he made a mistake with Atletico exiting the Champions League and once again struggling to keep pace with Barca in the title race, according to French newspaper L’Equipe.
Atletico failed to defend a two-goal lead in Turin on Tuesday as former Real Madrid star Cristano Ronaldo knocked Los Rojiblancos out of the Champions League.
“We didn’t play the game we wanted it, it was a bad night and we made it easy for Juventus,” Grienzmann told Sky Italia.
“We are all disappointed, as we just din’t play. I’m the first to say I didn’t do enough, our tempo was wrong and Juventus were superior on every level
“Considering we won the first leg 2-0, we can’t say much. I don’t know what happened, it reminded me a little of the Bayern Munich game, but that time we were able to make some adjustments.
“Tonight, Juve were superior on all levels.’
Atletico’s La Liga hopes also took a huge blow on Saturday as they lost 2-0 to Athletic Bilbao, giving Barcelona the chance to go 10 points clear on Sunday.
Griezmann has continued to perform at a high level this term, contributing 18 goals and eight assists in 39 appearances in all competitions.
The World Cup winner has spent five seasons at the club and has won a Europa League, UEFA Super Cup and Spanish Super Cup during that time.
In the last two summers, Griezmann has verbally agreed to contracts with Manchester United and Barcelona. I doubt that either of these teams would be interested in reigniting their interest in the world-cup winner.
