It has been a bad seven days for Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez and it is going to get a little worse.
Liverpool co-owner George Gillett was quoted speaking to a Liverpool fan group Spirit of Shankly recently and he had this to day about the club:
“The money we have invested means it should be getting better. Now, if it’s not getting better, it’s not Gillett and Hicks, it’s the manager, it’s the scouting. You have to make sure you balance out your analysis. There was plenty of money, so if you have any complaints, take a look at the ins and outs.”
It sounds like Gillett is saying that Liverpool’s inability to win the title is due to Rafa. And that he and Tom Hicks have invested £128million in players over the last 18 months, giving the manager the support that he wanted.
Now it is up to Rafa to deliver. The big question is can he? I know that a lot of Liverpool fans love him, but other than a magical night in Istanbul, what has he won? An FA Cup, but for the money that Rafa has spent, you would expect more. And it sounds like George Gillett does.
