Unlike the Neymar to Old Trafford story, the one linking Real Madrid star Gareth Bale to a return to the Premier League is one that appears to have some legs.
According to the Mirror, Monday night’s brutal axing of Rafa Benitez was not viewed favorable by Bale.
Benitez tried to build the team around Bale, one of the reasons the former Liverpool boss fell out with Cristiano Ronaldo, and Bale’s goal against Valencia on Sunday night was his ninth of the season in only 15 appearances.
Bale is said to be waiting to see what role he has under Zidane and whether he still will be the focal point of the attack, before deciding his future.
United need a creative spark and are determined to bring in a Galactico, with 26-year-old Bale still their No.1 target.
Ed Woodward sees the capture of Bale as a crowd pleaser for the Old Trafford faithful, and there is a genuine belief that the managerial merry-go-round can help rather than hinder their chances.
United would have to bid in excess of £75m and that would give Real Madrid the spending power to rebuild their squad in the summer.
Do you think Man United will sign Bale next summer?
