According to Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu, the Spanish champions are not buying new players for this summer after completing the purchases of Aleix Vidal and Arda Turan
Spain defender Vidal signed for Barca last month following his transfer from Sevilla and Turkey international midfielder Turan recently joined the Catalan giants from Atletico Madrid.
“We’ve made it clear. The team is complete, the idea was to have the squad that we have now and we’re not expecting any departures. If someone wants to leave, they will have to tell us, because we have no information about anyone wanting to do so. We haven’t had any offers”, the recently elected ‘Azulgranas’ chief said.
“If someone leaves, it will be because the player asks to. We don’t want anyone to go”, Bartomeu reiterated
The irony of Bartomeu’s comments is that Barcelona are currently serving a TRANSFER BAN. They should not be allowed to sign anyone in this transfer window, but their actions have made a mockery of the ban. And I cannot understand why FIFA, who imposed the sanction are allowing Barca to get away with this. When Chelsea were giving a transfer ban several years ago, they complied with the ban and did not sign players. There was none of this signing players who cannot play for six months nonsense that Barca is doing at the moment.
While Barca have been very success on the field under Josep Bartomeu’s reign, off the pitch the club has lost some of its luster with the Neymar deal, Messi tax scandal and the UNICEF shirt deal.
