Club Atlético de Madrid are enjoying a busy summer as they prepare to defend their UEFA Europa League title with Filipe Luis the latest to commit his future to Los Colchoneros.
Luis has agreed terms on a two-year contract extension that ties the 26-year-old to the UEFA Europa League holders until June 2017.
Los Rojiblancos signed the Brazilian defender from RC Deportivo La Coruña for a reported fee of €12m in 2010 and he has gone on to feature 63 times for the club in the Spanish Liga while earning UEFA Super Cup and UEFA Europa League honours.
“Last season was the best of my career so far and I’m happy to continue making history here,” he said. “I feel important in the dressing room and I want to help Atlético to return to the top which is where they deserve to be.”
Diego Simeone’s side – who will defend their UEFA Europa League title from the group stage – previously agreed a deal to keep goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois on loan at the club for another season and also added Emre Belözoğlu, Cristian Rodríguez and Cata Díaz to their squad.
