Interesting comments from Sir Alex Ferguson that he believes that Jose Mourinho would be capable of stepping into his shoes at Manchester United, but he stopped short of saying he is the man who should replace him.
I have long believed that Mourinho is the only manager with the ability, and ego, to replace a legend like Fergie when he finally retires.
The Special One has made no secret of his desire to return to the Premier League says he wants to lift the Champions League with an English club after being crowned a European champion with Porto and Inter Milan.
“In my whole career everything was perfect. The only thing I didn’t — and I hope I can do it one day — is to win a Champions League with an English club.” said Mourinho
sSpeaking to an ITV programme to celebrate Mourinho’s 10 years at the top of management, Ferguson admitted he has got what it takes to manage any club in the world. When asked if Mourinho could replace him, he told ITV4:
“He can manage anywhere, absolutely. I’m not going to put any forecasts on what is going to happen at this club. I won’t last forever, but Jose can manage anywhere, there is no question about that.”
Mourinho has had a remarkable career winning 21 trophies in 10 years in four different leagues, which also impresses SAF:
“That’s incredible, that. How old is he now? Fiftieth year. So he is 20 years behind me. At the same rate he is going to add another 42 trophies.
“I don’t think he will manage until he is 70, will he? In that case he would have 50-odd trophies. He’s a greedy bugger!”
Do you think that Mourinho will take over from Fergie at Old Trafford or will he end up at Man City?
